Seasonal fall smoothie

Seasonal fall smoothie

With the dryness and heat of Los Angeles, we’ve been craving a drink that will help nourish our fluids and quench our thirst. This smoothie recipe is the perfect remedy and most of the ingredients are local and seasonal right now. The pineapple guava and coconut oil make it taste a little tropical, almost like a mango or pineapple lassi. Sorry about the not so artful shot but I thought to take the photo once I was halfway done with it…

1 Fuyu persimmon
1 Asian pear (either Ken’s Top Notch or Arnett Farms)
1 Bartlett pear (we love the flavor of Yingst Ranch pears)
1 gala apple
1 pineapple guava aka feijoa (actually grows as a shrub here in LA but can be found only at a few vendors like Friend’s Ranch in Ojai)
A pinch of cardamom
1 T extra virgin unrefined organic coconut oil
1.5 cups plain kefir
Ice (optional)
